Asked for a business email just to get a quote?

You asked for a quote and got told they only serve business email addresses. Why this happens so often, what signal hides behind it, and how to fix it the same day.

The scene plays out every day in the B2B world: you write to a supplier asking for a quote. They reply fast and friendly, and ask for your details: name, company, business email. You give your usual address, the free one, and the tone changes: "to send you the information, we require a corporate email from your company". You do not have one. And there, with the money ready and every intention to buy, the conversation dies.

If this has happened to you, you are not alone. Suppliers, wholesalers, software platforms and even banks put up that same filter. It is worth understanding why it exists, and above all, why it no longer has to stop you.

Why they ask for it

Let us be fair to the other side: a business email works as a cheap trust signal. For the seller, an address on its own domain suggests an established company, with a name that answers for it; and it filters the merely curious out of their inbox. Many companies have it written into their sales policies, and the rep serving you cannot skip it even if they want to.

Is it a good filter? We think it is not: a real business can perfectly well run on a free email address, and whoever rejects people by their email address loses customers with money in hand. But you do not control that rule. What you do control is no longer crashing into it.

"Nobody sets up a business email just to get a quote"

It is the natural objection, and a few years ago it was true. Having email on your own domain meant a project: finding someone to set it up, touching DNS records with fear, paying without understanding what for. Nobody was going to get into all that just to receive a quote.

That is what changed. Today it is a morning errand:

  1. Buy your domain. It takes a few minutes and costs less per year than a lunch. If you do not know where to start, this guide walks you through choosing one and buying it without the checkout traps.
  2. Create your organization in nanimail and type in your domain.
  3. Connect it. If your domain is with a supported provider, it is literally one click; if not, we guide you record by record and verify everything is right.
  4. Answer that quote the same day, from ventas@yourbusiness.com.

And one more thing, in case the filter left a bad taste: we will not ask you for a business email to serve you. We will give you one.

What you gain goes far beyond that quote

Email on your own domain opens the door that was closed on you, but the valuable part is what it does afterwards:

  • Trust with your own customers. The same signal that supplier demanded from you, you now start giving. An address with your name on it looks serious before it is even opened.
  • Your mail arrives. With your domain authenticated (SPF, DKIM, DMARC), your messages are signed and reach the inbox, not spam.
  • Your address is yours. If you ever switch email providers, your address goes with you, because the domain is yours.

In short

The business email filter exists, nanimail did not put it there, and you will not tear it down arguing with the sales rep. But the barrier that made it painful is gone: having email on your own domain stopped being a project and became a morning errand.

Next time someone asks you for a business email, let the answer be "of course!". That is exactly why we built nanimail.
